Therapeutic indications: it is indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control in adults: 1. Use with potent CYP3A4 inducers: using CYP3A4 inducers like carbamazepine, dexamethasone, phenobarbital, phenytoin and rifampicin may reduce the glycaemiclowering effect of Onglyza see section 4. Pregnancy and lactation. Pregnancy: there are no data from the use of saxagliptin in pregnant women. Studies in animals have shown reproductive toxicity at high doses see section 5. The potential risk for humans is unknown. Onglyza should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary.
Lactation: it is unknown whether saxagliptin is excreted in human breast milk. A risk to the suckling child cannot be excluded. A decision must be made whether to discontinue breast-feeding or to discontinue therapy taking into account the benefi t of breast-feeding for the child and the benefi t of therapy to the woman.
